Concordes attacking NYC-redone by concaholic Concordes attacking NYC-redone by concaholic
This is a re-do of a drawing I did in 2009. I feel that I have improved since then and I wanted to make the city actually look like New York.

Starving after their long flight across the Atlantic, a large group of flesh-eating Concordes takes the population of New York City by surprise. Any human outside is instantly grabbed in sharp talons and carried off to a building top where they are eaten alive. The Concordes can also attack people inside buildings, since they are large and strong enough to tear their way into them. The Empire State Building begins to collapse in an immense wall of dust after a group of Concordes has bitten through the steel support beams. As the building collpases, the Concordes fly away from it, ready to attack any survivors in the rubble.

I spent probably around 8-9 hours on this, which is the longest I've spent on a drawing. While working on this, I discovered I hate drawing buildings.

This is a scene from my upcoming Concorde story.

This is Epic, especially the Apache with its tail fell off, I really expected to see how would it be like if killer planes have to fight against miltary aircrafts

Perhaps sometime I should draw a pack of killer planes engaging with some fighter jets.

For critique, I'm going to say that I would be very interested in seeing more interaction between the different elements of the picture. Yes, they're interacting (planes clinging to walls, for example), but they still appear to be very separate elements (the airplane that clings to the wall isn't creating any crumbling or damaging the building). Similarly, the smoke appears to be in a single, self-contained cloud around the main building and in single plumes around the other damaged vehicles, etc. This makes me think that you first drew the city, then drew the planes, and then added the smoke as an afterthought. And that, really, is what I mean when I say I want more interaction--I want to get the impression that it's not a picture of a burning city and an attack, but that it is a burning city.

Love the detail and how much action there is. It's the little things that throw me off.

Good luck drawing!

I'm really sorry for the late response, been kinda busy
Thanks for your feedback. I never really thought about interaction with the different elements. I should go back and add some damage to the building the Concorde is clinging to. I am a little confused about what you mean about the smoke plume coming from the building. I looked at a lot of photos of collapsing buildings while working on this and they show dust coming off the building as it collapses.
Thanks for your imput on it, I'll keep what you said in mind for future drawings :)

For the smoke plumes, all I meant was that the plumes are more like large clouds of gray than neat, thin plumes of smoke.

No problem and good luck drawing!

Hah, I hate drawing buildings, too, but these are looking good, I can tell it's New York. I like the Concorde holding the man, and their sharp teeth.

I'm having issues with the scaling though; are the Concordes really that big or are they much closer to us than the buildings?

It's a fantastic idea, and they look kinda cute.

Thanks, I'm glad the city is recognizable as New York; I was somewhat concerned about that when I uploaded this.

The Concorde carrying the person and the one chasing it are closer, so that's why they appear larger.

Thanks, I'm really glad you like it :)

suggest you add thicker outlines for things/objects/subjects that are nearer to the viewer, adds more sense of space so to speak:)

i wish i had half the skill and patience to do that... i'm preferring digital, though. immensely easier to adjust/correct mistakes.

still, i do have to stick to traditional sometimes.

Thanks, although I really don't have the patience to draw for more than a few hours at a time.

Personally I'm not much of a fan of digital. I've only used Paint and Muro and I can't draw at all with a mouse.

understandably. my main issue is motivation; i can sit still for HOURS, literally.

when all you have is a mouse, that's understandable. then again, if it's not for you, that's cool, too. some styles are hard to translate into digital. ^^
